The show must go on, from a safe distance. For the past 113 years, Portland Rose Festival has been our city’s signature celebration. With roses as the centerpiece, spectacular floats, bands, and community groups come together to entertain hundreds of thousands of parade goers every spring.
This year, the Rose Festival is evolving these traditions to celebrate community spirit and resilience, and inspire hope during these challenging times.
Portland Rose Festival has launched Parading in Place, a new at-home celebration our entire city can partake in from the safety of our homes.
Festivities include two activities: Porch Parade and Grand Petite Parade. Both activities are free and open to the public.
Now get busy on your very own Rose Festival from home!
Portland Rose Festival Parading in Place
Show your Rose Festival spirit by decorating your front porch. Choose one of their themes as inspiration or go wild with your own ideas to bring a smile to your friends and neighbors.
The first 100 porches in the Portland metro area to register will receive a free Rose Festival Porch Parade lawn sign. It will magically appear in your lawn, no need to touch it or interact with anyone.
Don’t have a porch? No problem! Decorate your lawn, the sidewalk, a window, or any place visible from the street or sidewalk.
The Rose Festival will produce a virtual map with the locations of all our registered porches, so you can plan a walk or drive around your neighborhood to see and share in the celebration.
Porches must be fully decorated by noon on Saturday, May 16, and able to stay up until midnight Saturday, May 30. Start your Porch Parade by registering for free online.
Grand Petite Parade
The Grand Floral will now be a Grand Petite Parade. The virtual parade will feature shoe box floats as well as a celebration of marching bands, and other Rose Festival parade favorites.
Participants are invited to use materials from home to build shoe box parade floats and submit photos to be included in the virtual parade livestream. They have some great examples online.
See your float featured in the the Grand Petite Parade on Facebook Live on the Portland Rose Festival’s page at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2020. All participants will receive a digital certificate acknowledging their participation in the first ever Grand Petite Parade!
If your float is the best you can also win prizes, such as 2020 Rose Vision lapel pins. The grand prize winner will be invited to attend a future Grand Floral Parade as guests of the Portland Rose Festival.
All submissions must be received by 5 p.m. on June 1, 2020. Register for free.
