Celebrate Latin American culture and community at this special OMSI science night. Latin American Community Ciencias Night is a family-friendly night of museum exploring, science demos, lectures and cultural entertainment.
The Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, better known as OMSI, is one of the nation’s leading science centers and we’re lucky to have it right here in Portland. Science lovers and explorers of the unknown will marvel at the special exhibits, hands-on labs and planetarium, 4-story screen theater and much more.
The local attraction also hosts a monthly discount day with $5 tickets and science pubs at Kennedy School and Theory Restaurant.
OMSI also hosts special events throughout the year. Here are the details about this upcoming science night:
Latin American Community Ciencias Night at OMSI
The Latin American Community Ciencias Night is Friday, May 16, from 6-9 p.m. Get ready to explore, eat and learn with special activities all night long. All are welcome to attend.
Here’s the schedule of exhibits and activities:
- Five science demonstrations, including OMSI Goes Viral!; Sparking Science and Health Identities Through Cultural Connections; Exploring the Albedo Effect; Floating Wind Energy; and Why Are Seal Whiskers Special?.
- Explore the featured exhibit, Jurassic World by Brickman.
- View the Natural Science Hall’s exhibit, Knowing Nature: Stories of the Boreal Forest.
- Play in the Science Playground from 6-8 p.m.
- Teens can check out the Teen Tech Center from 6-8 p.m.
- Planetarium Shows are first come, first served at 6:30 p.m. Solar Superstorms (in Spanish), 7:15 p.m. Starry Nights Live! (in Spanish) and 8 p.m. Laser Bruno Mars (in English).
- There’s also face painting and a photo booth.
There are also 17 community and food artisan vendors at the event. Empirical Cafe is open and there are a few food carts.
Tickets
Here is the ticket price breakdown:
- $10 for adults and $8 for youth/seniors for Ciencias Night activities only.
- $17 for adults and $15 for youth/seniors for Ciencias Night activities and Jurassic World by Brickman.
Food and drinks are available for purchase.
