Celebrate Latin American culture and community at this special OMSI science night. Latin American Community Ciencias Night is a family-friendly night of museum exploring, science demos, lectures and cultural entertainment.
The Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, better known as OMSI, is one of the nation’s leading science centers and we’re lucky to have it right here in Portland. Science lovers and explorers of the unknown will marvel at the special exhibits, hands-on labs and planetarium, 4-story screen theater and much more. The local attraction also hosts a monthly discount day with $5 tickets and science pubs at Kennedy School and Theory Restaurant.
OMSI also hosts special events throughout the year. Here are the details about this upcoming science night:
Latin American Community Ciencias Night at OMSI
The Latin American Community Ciencias Night is Friday, June 16, from 6-9 p.m. Get ready to dance, explore, eat and learn with special activities all night long. All are welcome to attend.
Here’s the schedule of exhibits and activities:
- Four science demonstrations, including Materials of Nature, Mind the Magnets, I am a Scientist and How do we study Burned Forests.
- Explore the featured exhibit, Orcas: Our Shared Future.
- View the Natural Science Hall’s exhibit, Creatividad Silvestre | Wild Creativity.
- Play in the Science Playground from 6-8 p.m.
- Teens can check out the Teen Tech Center from 6-8 p.m.
- Listen to live music by Pa’lante.
- Planetarium Shows are first come, first served at 6:30 (in Spanish), 7:15 (in English) and 8 p.m. (in Spanish).
- Empirical Theater is showing Flight of the Butterfly at 6:30 and 7:30 p.m.
- Participate in Salsa dance instruction from 6:45-7:15 p.m. and 8-8:30 p.m.
There are also 22 community and food artisan vendors at the event. Theory Restaurant is open from 6-9 p.m. and there are a few food carts.
Tickets
Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for kids and seniors. Tickets include access to the featured exhibit, activities listed above and parking. Food and drinks are available for purchase.
