Celebrate the beginning of a new season, nature and gardening at the Spring Equinox Garden Fair.
Leach Botanical Garden is a natural oasis nestled in Southeast Portland. The 16-acre estate features more than 2,000 plant species growing along the banks of Johnson Creek. Adding to the unique charm is the historic manor house, stone cabin, bridge crossing and gift shop.
A few years ago, the outdoor escape opened its expansive upper garden. Stroll among the treetops on the aerial treewalk and see a whole new side of the garden at the fireside arbor and terrace and pollinator garden. Also included in the project are accessible pathways, parking areas, restrooms and a new entry area with a path leading from the upper garden to the manor house.
The garden also hosts special events every month that bring our community together to enjoy one of Portland’s best outdoor escapes.
Spring Equinox Garden Fair at Leach Botanical Garden
The Spring Equinox Garden Fair is Tuesday, March 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Enjoy free admission all day at the urban oasis.
There are several activities during the event. If you’re a gardener, join the community seed swap. There’s also an opportunity to get your pruning shears and shovels sharpened (price varies). Plus, there’s an information table with OSU Extension Service Master Gardener volunteers to answer your gardening questions.
For families, this event was planned a week after the first day of spring to align with Spring Break. There are arts and crafts, and a spring-themed scavenger hunt along with complimentary snacks for all.
Visitors will also have access to all the trails to explore this special natural area. Join the garden staff for strolls through the property from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The garden is located at 6704 SE 122nd Ave. in Portland. For more information and to pre-register for the free event, visit Leach Botanical Garden’s website.
