Celebrate the summer solstice at this local, family-owned nursery. Cornell Farm is hosting a day of learning, food and fun.
Cornell Farm dates back to 1987 when the family started a retail stand selling flowers and vegetable plants. From one to 13 greenhouses, the Portland farm now grows 800 varieties of annuals and perennials grown onsite. Along with the indoor and outdoor garden centers there is a cafe, pavilion, chicken coop, veranda and much more.
This weekend, celebrate the new season during the Summer Solstice Celebration. While you’re on the West side of town, consider stopping by the El Sol Festival.
Summer Solstice Celebration at Cornell Farm
On Saturday, June 21, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Cornell Farm invites the whole family to stop by for learning opportunities and fun activities at the Summer Solstice Celebration.
Here are the activities taking place:
Learn how to garden with nature. Around the farm, you’ll find special displays highlighting how to incorporate nature into your garden. You can also talk to experts from the Backyard Habitat Certification Program to learn how to get involved.
Explore the farm on a scavenger hunt. The interactive game takes your family from display gardens to veggies and flowers you can grow at home to the resident flock of chickens.
If all that gardening talk works up an appetite, stop by the farmhouse cafe from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for summertime brunch and drink specials along with a special summer solstice menu.
Plus, 5% of all sales are donated to the Backyard Habitat Certification Program to support native gardening in the Portland metro.
The event is free to attend. Parking is limited. You are encouraged to carpool or use a rideshare service.
Cornell Farm is located at 8212 SW Barnes Road in Portland. For more information, visit Cornell Farm’s website.
