At the Repair Cafe don’t expect a fancy espresso drink. But if you show up with a busted lawnmower, a goofy gear or a flat tire on your bicycle, a ripped hem on your favorite skirt, a knife that is so dull it can’t cut butter, or various other repair problems, cheerful volunteers will fix everything and send you on your way without charging you a penny.
This is not DIY but WSEDIT, that is, Watch Someone Else Do It Themselves. And did I mention that it’s FREE?
From 6 to 9 pm Thursday evening, March 20, bring your fixit problems to 1810 NE 1st Ave., also known as the Bike Farm, which is just behind Reverend Nat’s Taproom, one block north of NE Broadway Street.
Register here, although you won’t need a printed ticket.
Repair Cafes are organized and held about once a month. The point is to fix things so they don’t end up in a landfill. The theme of this month’s Repair Cafe is preparing for spring, so folks who know all about fixing lawn mowers and the small engines on gas mowers, or sharpening blades of hand mowers or garden tools will be on hand. There are also bike experts who’ll get your bike working again so you can ride around and admire all the trees in bloom, and garment repair experts, who will patch up your favorite spring duds.
Interested in volunteering your repair skills or signing up to get email alerts about upcoming Repair Cafes? You can do so at Repair Cafe’s website.
