Did you know fall in Portland is the best time to plant new trees? Portland Parks and Recreation’s Urban Forestry Team is making it easier than ever to add some foliage to your yard by giving away thousands of free trees to Portlanders.
Adding trees to your yard can offer shade, boost pollinator and animal habitat and enhance your yard’s beauty.
Here’s how you can get free trees:
Sign Up for Portland’s Free Yard Tree Giveaway
Choose from a variety of medium to large trees, including native, evergreen, conifer and deciduous options. There’s large native evergreens, heat-tolerant trees for hotter summers, flowering trees, nut-bearing and trees rich with autumn color. Best of all, you get to choose what you want.
Every fall, Portland residents can sign up to receive up to three free yard trees to plant at:
- Your home
- A place of worship
- A business property
You can also choose from a variety of delivery options, including home delivery and professional planting by the Urban Forestry team.
To participate, the trees must follow these guidelines:
- Planted within Portland city limits in your front, side or back yard. Trees cannot be planted in the space between sidewalk and curb.
- You agree to let Urban Forestry check on your tree during summer as part of a study.
