One more holiday weekend before school starts. Celebrate the end of summer with a family outing to one of these Labor Day events. There are plenty of Portland activities for hot summer days, and Labor Day weekend is sure to bring the heat with these awesome, and mostly FREE events.

Labor Day weekend events for families and friends
Tickets to OMSI are only $2 on the first Sunday of the month. You read that right. $2! Pack up the whole family or grab your friends for a full day of cheap fun.
The Hoyt Arboretum is a wonderful green space that is free to all visitors. This place has so many fun activities for outdoor lovers. On Saturdays and Sundays, knowledgeable volunteers take guests on little adventures throughout the arboretum for $3 per person.
The City of Portland’s Movies in the Parks series extends into early September. See Moana and Pawn Sacrifice in one of Portland’s beautiful parks.
How many birds can you count? Be spellbound by swifts entering the Chapman chimney at Chapman Elementary School. Starting on September 1 at 6 p.m., Vaux’s Swifts will arrive at the elementary school in waves as they roost in the chimney. Bring a lawn chair and take in this nature sighting that lasts for one month every year.
As we head into the heat of summer, cool off a these free Portland pools, splash pads and fountains. Many of these water features are in local parks. Pack a lunch and spend the entire day beating the heat.
