Make a new tradition on Christmas day by visiting one of these independent movie theaters in and around Portland.
These 12 local theaters are showing new releases and Christmas classics on December 25. All of them have theater snacks and some offer full meals. If you want to take the stress out of preparing a holiday feast, consider grabbing a bite at the movies.
Some of the chain movie theaters in our city, including Regal and Cinemark, are open on Christmas day. This post focuses on independent theaters throughout Portland.
Portland Movie Theaters Open on Christmas Day
I have included showtimes, movies, ticket prices and locations for each theater. Keep in mind, ages range for child and senior discount tickets. All of these theaters offer online ticket purchasing, which typically includes additional processing fees.
Bagdad Theater & Pub
The McMenamins location is showing Mufasa: The Lion King at 3:15 and 7 p.m. The theater has pizza, burgers, snacks, salads, beer, wine and cocktails.
Tickets are $9.50 before 5 p.m. and $11.50 after 5 p.m. Kids 12 and under are $8.50 per ticket.
Bagdad Theater is at 3702 S.E. Hawthorne Blvd. in Portland.
Hollywood Theatre
The historic theater has showtimes from 2:30 to 9:45 p.m. on Christmas.
Tickets are $9 for matinees and $12 for adults and $10 for kids and seniors in the evenings.

Hollywood Theatre is at 4122 North East Sandy Blvd. in Portland.
Kennedy School Theater
McMenamins Kennedy School theater is showing holiday and family-friendly movies along with festive food and drink specials.
Here’s the schedule:
- 1 p.m. A Christmas Story
- 4 p.m. The Wild Robot
- 7 p.m. Elf
Tickets are $6 per person and $4 for children 12 and under. Kids 2 and under attend for free.
Kennedy School Theater is located at 5736 NE 33rd Ave.
Kiggins Theatre
The Vancouver theater is showing Nosferatuat 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. on December 25. The theater sells movie snacks.
Tickets are $11.
Kiggins Theatre is at 1011 Main St. in Vancouver.
Lake Theater & Cafe
The Lake Oswego theater has showtimes from 1:30 to 8 p.m. on December 25. Lake Theater has a full menu of food and drinks.
Movies include:

- Nosferatu
Tickets are $11 and $8 for seniors and kids 12 and under.
Lake Theater & Cafe is at 106 N State St. in Lake Oswego.
Laurelhurst Theater and Pub
Laurelhurst Theater is open on Christmas day with showtimes from 12 to 7 p.m. The theater also serves pizza, salad, beer, wines and snacks.
Movies include:
- A Complete Unknown
- Nosferatu
- Babygirl
- Wicked
Tickets are $10 for general admission and $7 for seniors and kids under 12. Shows that start before 5:30 p.m. are $7.
Laurelhurst Theater is located at 2735 East Burnside Street.
Living Room Theater
The downtown theater has showtimes from 11:45 a.m. to 7:45 p.m. This theater also has a full menu of food and drinks.

- All We Imagine as Light

- Babygirl
- Nosferatu
- Wicked
Ticket prices range from $10.75 to $14.75 depending on the showtime.
Living Room Theater is located at 341 SW 10th Avenue in Portland.
Moreland Theater
The historic single screen cinema is showing Moana 2 at 2:40, 4:50 and 7 p.m. You can get your favorite movie snacks to accompany the show.
Tickets are $8 per person before 6 p.m. In the evening, tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for kids and seniors.
Moreland Theater is located at 6712 SE Milwaukie Ave. in Portland.
Mt. Hood Theatre
The theater is showing Sonic the Hedgehog 3 at 4 p.m. on Christmas. Get a hot dog, nachos and other snacks.
The price is $8 for the matinee showing
Mt. Hood Theatre is at 401 East Powell Boulevard in Gresham.
Oak Grove 8 Cinemas
Oak Grove 8 Cinemas’ Christmas schedule has showtimes from 1:10-9:45 p.m.
Movies include:

- Nosferatu
Tickets are $6 before 6 p.m. After 6 p.m., pay $8 for adults and $6 for children and seniors.
Oak Grove 8 Cinemas is at 16100 SE McLoughlin Blvd. in Portland.
Power Station Theater
Located at McMenamins Edgefield, the theater has three showings of Mufasa: The Lion King at 12, 3:30 and 7 p.m. Order pub food or classic concessions to pair with a handcrafted beverage.
Tickets are $8 per ticket before 5 p.m. and $10 for adults and $8 for kids in the evening.
The Power Station Theater is located at 2126 S.W. Halsey St. in Troutdale.
St. Johns Twin Cinema and Pub
This St. Johns cinema has showtimes from 12:45 to 7:30 p.m. on Christmas. Enjoy popcorn, snacks, local brews and pizza.
Movies include:
- Nosferatu
- Mufasa: The Lion King
Tickets are $9 for matinees and $11 for adults and $9 for seniors after 6 p.m.
While there, grab a slice of pizza to go with your beer or wine.
St. Johns Twin Cinema and Pub is located at 8704 N Lombard Street.
Studio One Cinemas
This luxury theater experience has showtimes from 11 a.m. to 9:45 p.m. on December 25. Studio One also has a full restaurant.
Movies include:
- Kraven the Hunter
- Mufasa: The Lion King
- Sonic the Hedgehog 3
- Wicked
Tickets prices range from $12.95 to $14.95 depending on the showtime, movie and auditoriums.
Studio One Cinemas is at 3945 SE Powell Blvd. in Portland.
