After nearly seven months of traveling through space, NASA’s Mars 2020 Perseverance rover is scheduled to land on Mars.
The Perseverance launched on July 30, 2020, from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida. After a very long journey, the rover is reaching its final destination. On Thursday, February 18, the rover will touchdown on Mars at is schedule for approximately 12:55 p.m. PST.
When Perseverance lands at Jezero Crater on Mars, it will have covered 292.5 million miles since lifting off from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida. That is quite a journey and Krispy Kreme believes this is something worth celebrating.
On February 18, Krispy Kreme is celebrating the landing with a special Mars Doughnut. This special will be available for one day only.
The Mars doughnut is a chocolate cream-filled doughnut dipped in caramel icing with a red planet swirl and sprinkled with chocolate cookie crumbs.
Some NASA lovers can get this doughnut for free, if they planned ahead. In addition to being the first-ever helicopter deployed on Mars with numerous technologies to find ancient life, collect rock and soil samples, the rover also is carrying the names of nearly 11 million people who participated in NASA’s “Send Your Name to Mars” program.
To celebrate these special space travelers, Krispy Kreme will give each one free Mars Doughnut on February 18. Just show your NASA-issued Mars 2020 Perseverance boarding pass to redeem.
If you haven’t already signed up to send your name to Mars, it’s too late for for this freebie. But you can sign up for the next flight!
