Portland welcomes back a beloved symbol of the city’s history, the Thompson Elk Fountain, and you’re invited to be part of the celebration.
On Sunday, April 12, from 1-4 p.m., the City of Portland, Portland Parks Foundation, and the Regional Arts & Culture Council host the Thompson Elk Fountain Homecoming Celebration. The community event honors the fountain’s long-standing significance. Set near Lownsdale Square, this homecoming celebration promises an afternoon filled with music and connection.
The festivities kick off at 1 p.m. with a DJ setting the tone for the day, followed by the official program at 1:30 p.m.
At 2:15 p.m., attendees gather for a special ribbon-cutting ceremony marking the fountain’s return.
At 2:30 p.m., guests are treated to a unique performance by IN A LANDSCAPE: Classical Music in the Wild, creating a memorable blend of art and nature.
American Sign Language interpretation is available during the dedication ceremony.
Beyond the main stage, there is plenty to explore. Food trucks, including Montage, Lily Fire Coffee, Bobablastic, and KOi Fusion, are on site serving up local favorites. Visitors can also enjoy community booths, free activities and giveaways throughout the afternoon, making it a family-friendly event for all ages.
The event is free to attend. Lownsdale Square is at SW Salmon St. and SW 4th Ave. in Portland. For more information, visit Portland Parks Foundation’s website.
