Yozakura Festival celebrates the beauty of cherry blossom trees at the Gresham Japanese Garden.
The magic of springtime in Japan has long been synonymous with the enchanting spectacle of cherry blossoms in full bloom. Traditionally celebrated through hanami, or cherry blossom viewing parties, this centuries-old tradition has transcended borders, captivating hearts worldwide. And now, Gresham, Oregon, eagerly joins in on the timeless tradition with its very own Yozakura Festival.
Originally scheduled for later in April, nature had its own plans this year, with the cherry blossoms gracing the Gresham Japanese Garden earlier than anticipated.

Celebrate Cherry Blossoms at Yozakura Festival in Gresham
Yozakura Festival celebrating cherry blossoms at Gresham Japanese Garden starts March 23 through April 2, or while the blooms last. What sets this festival apart is its unique offering of nighttime cherry blossom viewing.
From 7 to 11 p.m. every night, visitors will witness the ethereal beauty of cherry blossoms illuminated against the night sky. Thirteen mature Akebono cherry trees are illuminated with soft lights, creating a mesmerizing ambiance that is sure to leave a lasting impression.
Adding to the allure of the event are special performances. Japanese traditional music groups Mitsuki Dazai-Church and Oregon Koto Kai will perform.
Underneath the blooming cherry trees, attendees can immerse themselves in the soothing melodies of sakura-inspired arrangements, while enjoying green tea and traditional sakura sweets. It’s an experience that promises to be both culturally enriching and visually captivating.
Here’s the performance schedule:
March 30
- First set: 7:45 to 8:10 p.m.
- Second set: 8:30 to 8:55 p.m.
April 6 (tentative)
- First set: 8 to 8:25 p.m.
- Second set: 8:35 to 9 p.m.
Blankets are encouraged, allowing visitors to cozy up as they enjoy the enchanting show and scenic beauty. This event is free to attend.
