Celebrate Asian American culture and community at this special OMSI science night. Asian American Pacific Peoples Community Science Night is a family-friendly night of museum exploring, science demos, lectures and cultural entertainment.
The Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, better known as OMSI, is one of the nation’s leading science centers and we’re lucky to have it right here in Portland. Science lovers and explorers of the unknown will marvel at the special exhibits, hands-on labs and planetarium, 4-story screen theater and much more. The local attraction also hosts a monthly discount day with $5 tickets and science pubs at Kennedy School and Theory Restaurant.
OMSI also hosts special events throughout the year. Here are the details about this upcoming science night:
Asian American Pacific Peoples Community Science Night at OMSI
The Asian American Pacific Peoples Community Science Night is Friday, August 18, from 6 to 9 p.m. The event features music, science demonstrations, planetarium shows, community vendors, lectures and food.
Science demonstrations include Energy Systems; Creative Technology; Sounds of Us: How do our Worlds Sound?; Germs, Germs Everywhere; and Keep your Anemones Close but Your Corals Closer.
Live performances include Le’o ‘oe ‘OFA, IINDIA, D-fanatix and Teva Oriata.

- 7:15 p.m. Worlds Beyond Earth
- 8:00 p.m. Laser Taylor Swift
Empirical Theater Lectures
- 6:30 p.m. Superpower Dogs
- 7:45 p.m. Hidden Pacific
Around the Museum
- 6:50 p.m. Hydrogen Balloons demo | Turbine Hall
- 7:50 p.m. Elephant’s Toothpaste demo | Turbine Hall
There are also eight food vendors and more than 20 community booths.
Tickets
Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for kids and seniors. The price includes access to the featured exhibit, parking and all activities listed above. Food and drinks are available for purchase.
