Daylight saving time, also referred to as daylight savings time, is the twice a year occasion when we set clocks forward by one hour in the spring and revert back an hour in the fall. Many of us remember it as springing forward and falling back.
In recent years, daylight saving time has sparked discussions regarding its effectiveness, impact on health and its relevance in the modern era. As the clock hands dance forward and backward, the biannual shift continues to capture attention and stir conversations about its benefits and drawbacks.
Here’s what you need to know about daylight saving in Oregon.
When is daylight saving in Oregon?
Daylight saving time is on the second Sunday in March. This year, it is Sunday, March 8, 2026.
What time do clocks change?
I remember in my younger years staying up to watch the clock change. Here’s a guide to help you remember when the time officially changes as we spring forward and fall back:
Daylight saving time begins on Sunday, March 8, 2026, at 2 a.m. Sunrise and sunset is an 1 hour later on Sunday than the day before. This results in more light in the evening.
Daylight saving time ends on Sunday, November 1, 2026, at 2 a.m. Sunrise and sunset is an 1 hour earlier on Sunday than the day before. This results in more light in the morning.
Is daylight saving ending in Oregon?
Oregon has a multiyear legislative history of trying, and failing, to end daylight saving time.
In 2019, the Oregon Legislature approved a bill to keep the state permanently on daylight saving time. Yet, if never received the Congressional approval it required.
Last year’s attempt was Senate Bill 1548. In February 2024, a 15-15 vote resulted in the bill failing on the chamber floor. Lawmakers concluded that Oregon making the change would cause confusion for people who travel to and from neighboring states.
A 2025 bill, Senate Bill 566, introduced in the Oregon Legislature proposes Oregon permanently stop the annual one-hour change from standard time to daylight saving time if California and Washington make the same change within the next 10 years.
For now, daylight saving time remains in Oregon in 2026.
