While the trails at Hoyt Arboretum remain open for visitors, many of the center’s programs and classes have been reduced. To bring our community closer to nature from the safety of our homes, Hoyt Arboretum has started offering virtual classes.
Virtual nature journaling lets you explore your artistic side with a focus on different plants and flowers.
Each week, the instructor will have an element of nature to display up close and lead participants through various styles of sketchbook drawings and writings.
In the new year, the class will focus on teaching you have to slow down to observe and record in a manner that suits you, including lists, charts, diagrams, sketches, stories or photos. Each class will also focus on demonstrating lettering and writing techniques that are fun and useful in keeping a nature journal.
Supplies you’ll need:
- Writing tool (pencil, pen, fine tip marker or colored pencils)
- A sketchbook or journal suitable for drawing
- Watercolors
A complete supply list is available upon registration.
The workshop will be taught over Zoom. Instructions and the link to the Zoom meeting will be sent out to attendees before the workshop time.
Classes take place virtually every Tuesday from 1-2:30 p.m.
The class is $20. Registration is available online. Once you sign up, you’ll receive the Zoom link to participate. Visit Hoyt Arboretum’s events calendar to register.
