The FREE Cathedral Park Jazz Festival returns this weekend for the 34th year. The festival kicks off Friday night at 5 p.m. as the cool cats from Roosevelt High School take the stage to welcome attendees. In this beautiful riverside park in the shadow of Portland’s Gothic St. Johns Bridge, it’s a fabulous way to spend a summer evening. Bring a picnic or find food and drink for sale at the festival.
The tunes continue Saturday starting at noon and fading at 10 p.m. Sunday’s lineup gets cooking at noon, ending at 8 p.m. The party continues Friday and Saturday nights at The Central Hotel, 8608 N. Lombard St., but there’s a $10 cover charge.
Check here for the festival schedule. Look for trumpeter-producer Farnell Newton, pianist Louis Pain and his smaller band King Louie Trio, and vocalist Jeff Baker.
