Short on happiness? Make sure you’re in the audience at Powell’s Books at Cedar Hills Crossing Tuesday, January 21, 7 p.m., when happiness guru Gretchen Rubin shares her wisdom on leading a happy life. Rubin, who lives in New York City, is the best-selling author of The Happiness Project. On Tuesday she’ll be promoting the paperback edition of her follow-up book, Happier At Home.
Rubin knows from her own experience how to drop something that’s not entirely satisfying in favor of something that is more likely to lead to real happiness. A graduate of Yale University and Yale Law School, she held a dream job after getting her J.D., clerking for Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor. But while at law school, she was the editor in chief of the Yale Law Journal and her undergrad degree was in English. On her way to a brilliant law career she suddenly realized she’d rather be a writer.
Rubin recently told Portland Monthly, “I just knew I’d rather fail as a writer than succeed as a lawyer.”
Her penchant for research led to several published books until she hit pay dirt with The Happiness Project. Next up: Before and After, a book about habit formation that will be published next year.
