Celebrate the 11th annual Independent Bookstore Day at local stores across Portland.
Held the last Saturday in April, Independent Bookstore Day is more than just a date on the calendar. It is a celebration of the unique cultural institutions that enrich our lives and communities. It’s a day to honor the passionate individuals who curate shelves with care, recommend hidden gems and foster connections among book lovers of all ages.
In Portland, stores across the city are hosting events on Saturday, April 27. Find a place to visit on this special literary day.
Independent Bookstore Day Events
Annie Bloom’s Books
This Multnomah Village bookstore is partnering with Street Books. Mention Street Books in-person, online or in a phone order and a portion of your purchase will be donated to the bicycle-powered library for people living outside.
Here are the additional happenings:
- Street Books representatives are at the store in the morning. There’s a drawing to win a Street Books sweatshirt and a copy of Loaners, a book about the organization published by a local press.
- Buy at least one book and you’ll get to choose a free advance reader copy from their cart.
- Also, a Golden Ticket from Libro.fm worth one year of audiobooks will be hidden somewhere in the store.
- They also have a selection of exclusive items, made available by publishers and authors especially for independent bookstores on this day.
Annie Bloom’s Books is open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at 7834 SW Capitol Hwy. in Portland.
Maggie Mae’s Bookshop
Head to Gresham for special events on Independent Bookstore Day, including:
- Make your own bookmark craft 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- Richard Scarry storytime at 11:30 a.m.
- Grown Up Book Cabin Craft 6 p.m. (sign up required).
- Indie exclusive items available to buy.
- Free Lorax tote with more than $15 in purchases, while supplies last.
Maggie Mae’s Bookshop is open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 50 NW 1st St. in Gresham.
Powell’s Books
The downtown location is hosting these special events and deals on Saturday:
- Exclusive one-day offers.
- Giveaways and hidden surprises.
- Spend $75 or more and get a free limited edition tote, while supplies last.
Powell’s Books is open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at 1005 W Burnside St. in Portland.
Spoke & Word Books
The Milwaukie bookstore has events and special all day on April 26.
Here’s what is in store:
- Activities and freebies for kids.
- Free signed Rupi Kaur print with the purchase of any poetry book, while supplies last.
