The legendary Mt. Hood Pond Skim is back! This year’s event promises epic costumes, outrageous splashes and plenty of prizes.
Here’s what you can expect at this year’s event:
2025 Mt. Hood Pond Skim
On Saturday, May 3, 2025, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Mt. Hood Meadows. Snowboarders and skiers aged 15 and older are invited to test their skills—and their balance—by skimming 100 feet across a frigid pond.
The competition is right in the base area, making it a prime spot for spectators to watch all the fun, from amazing skims to unforgettable wipeouts.
Prizes are awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, as well as for best splash, best costume and best overall impression.
Competitor Schedule
- 8:15-9:30 a.m. Check-in.
- 10:00 a.m. Competitors meeting.
- 10:30 a.m. First runs begin,
Polar Plunge and Raffle
Even if you didn’t snag a spot in the Pond Skim (registration is full), dive into the action with Special Olympics of Oregon. After the skimming concludes, join the Special Olympics of Oregon’s Polar Plunge. Take a daring leap into the icy pond, and get entered into a raffle.
Not up for plunging into icy waters? You can still buy raffle tickets to support a great cause.
Proceeds from the Polar Plunge benefit Special Olympics of Oregon.
