Zooming around the wooden oval rink to playful music with a kaleidoscope of colors illuminating room as we make a feeble attempt to defy gravity by holding on to friends and family. There are a lot of fond memories that come with roller skating.
This nostalgia was taken to a whole new level by the incredible roller skating content on TikTok! If you don’t know what I’m talking about, take a scroll through #RollerSkating.
We can relive our childhood memories, and aspire to be as awesome as TikTok skaters, now that one of Portland’s last remaining roller rinks has reopened to the public.
Oaks Amusement Park in Portland has been bringing joy to the young and young at heart since 1905. In fact, it is one of the oldest continually operating amusement parks in the country. A year ago, Oaks Amusement Park shuttered its main attractions and weathered the pandemic by creating drive through events. On March 1, a sign of the good old times came with the roller rink officially reopening.
The Oaks Park Roller Rink offers year-round fun for Portlanders with skating available seven days a week. Currently, the rink is allowing 50 people per two-hour time slot that must be booked in advance of your visit.
Session times include:
- Monday-Thursday: 3-5 PM | 5:30-7:30 PM | 8-10 PM
- Friday-Sunday: 12:30-2:30 PM | 3-5 PM | 5:30-7:30 PM | 8-10 PM
Everyone five years of age and older is required to wear a mask or face covering, and maintain at least 6 feet from anyone not in your group. Food and beverages can be purchased at Rick’s Roller Rink Café during your session.
Admission is $10 and includes conventional skate rental. That means you’ll pay only $5 per hour. That’s a great deal! Tickets must be purchased online in advance and are non-refundable. If mandates require the roller rink to close again, you will receive an Oaks Park gift card in the value of the rental fee.
You are also welcome to bring your own skates. They will be subject to inspection by Oaks Park staff in order to protect the skating rink floors.
Oaks Amusement Park is located at 7805 SE Oaks Park Way in Portland. Parking is free. To book your skating session, visit the Oaks Park website.
