Learn Something New on this Nature Adventure
The Hoyt Arboretum is a wonderful green space that is free to all visitors. This place has so many fun activities for outdoor lovers. The landscape features a vast collection of labeled tree species for personal exploration. The stewards of the Arboretum offer classes, outdoor event spaces, and a variety of programs for kids and adults to enjoy.
Every weekend there are guided tours at Hoyt Arboretum. From April through October, knowledgeable volunteers take guests on little adventures throughout the arboretum, exploring the flora and discussing the fauna that thrive in the 189-acre forested haven.
You’ll have two tour times to choose from. Every Saturday and Sunday at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., the guides depart from the Visitor Center with guests in tow. The tours run for about 90 minutes. No reservation necessary.
The guides ask for a $3 suggested donation. Where else can you get an hour and a half of entertainment for $3?
If you can’t make it on the weekend, remember that the Arboretum grounds are open and free to the public from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
The forest has twelve miles of hiking trails waiting for you to explore. Trail distance ranges from 30 minutes to up to two hours of hiking. The arboretum has ADA accessible paved trails as well.
The arboretum also hosts many other weekly events. Most of them are completely free. Check the events calendar to help guide your visit.
There are two small parking lots at the Visitor’s Center, and additional paid parking lots nearby. If you’re taking public transit, the arboretum is just a short walk away from the Washington Park MAX stop.
The Visitor’s Center is located along the Washington Park shuttle route. This free shuttle arrives every 15 minutes and is the ideal way to see many of the attractions that are a short distance from the Hoyt Arboretum. Nearby attractions include the Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial, International Rose Test Garden, Oregon Holocaust Museum and more.
The Hoyt Arboretum Visitor Center is located at 4000 SW Fairview Blvd. For more information, visit www.hoytarboretum.org.
