This coming Sunday evening, March 2, is Oscar night. You could watch the Red Carpet and the following ceremony in the comfort of your own home, but why not join the fun and festivities by attending a local Oscars party? A few of them are FREE of charge, which makes them winners in the eyes of Portland Living on the Cheap.
Check these out, then get your tuxedos and gowns out of the attic and get ready to party:
Hollywood Theatre. You may win prizes for the elegance of your viewing costume, so don’t hold back. Doors open at 3:30 and Red Carpet coverage starts at 4. You can buy pizza by the slice and special cocktails inspired by the nominated films. 4122 NE Sandy Blvd.
EastBurn. Here there will be no prizes for what you’re wearing, but for what you know. Oscars Trivia begins at 3 p.m. and lasts until the Red Carpet show begins at 4 p.m. That’s time enough to win big in gift certificates for the bar. The big prize is the Peter O’Toole trophy, named in honor of the late actor who was nominated eight times and (sob!) never took home a little gold man. 1800 E. Burnside St.
McMenamins Edgefield. No prizes, just a broadcast of the Red Carpet and the Oscars ceremony on the big screen of the Power Station Theater beginning at 4 p.m.. Food and drinks are for sale. 2126 SW Halsey St., Troutdale.
