Free Estacada Lake Witches Paddle Returns October 4

Grab your pointiest hat and trade the broomstick for a paddle. The Estacada Lake Witches Paddle Boarding and Kayaking Event returns to Milo McIver State Park for its sixth year.

On Sunday, October 4, witches, warlocks and other costumed paddlers are invited to take to Estacada Lake on stand-up paddleboards and kayaks. The gathering is free to participate, although parking and Oregon’s required Waterway Access Permit may add to the cost.

2026 Estacada Lake Witches Paddle

The 2026 Estacada Lake Witches Paddle is Sunday, October 4, at noon at Milo McIver State Park.

Paddlers dress in their best witch, warlock and Halloween costumes before heading out together on Estacada Lake. Both stand-up paddleboards and kayaks are welcome.

There is no cost to participate in the event. Bring your own paddlecraft and gear.

What to Know Before You Go

There is one important change for paddlers in 2026: Oregon now requires a Waterway Access Permit for all nonmotorized paddlecraft, regardless of length. That includes kayaks and stand-up paddleboards. The previous exemption for most boats under 10 feet was removed for 2026.

Each boat needs a permit while in use. Learn more and purchase a permit through the Oregon State Marine Board.

Bring the required safety equipment for your paddlecraft, including a properly fitting life jacket, and follow Oregon boating and water-safety rules.

Estacada Lake access at Milo McIver State Park is currently open. The Oregon State Marine Board is asking visitors to be considerate at the lake’s limited access points and avoid blocking the boat ramp or docks.

Parking at Milo McIver State Park

Milo McIver State Park requires a day-use parking permit. In 2026, the daily fee is $10 for Oregon residents and $12 for nonresidents per vehicle.

Daily permits can be purchased at the park. Visitors with a valid Oregon State Parks annual parking permit or a current state park camping receipt do not need to purchase an additional day-use permit.

With costumes, fall scenery and a lake full of witches, this is one Portland-area Halloween event that’s worth getting a little wet for.
