Celebrate Saturday on the farm! Zenger Farm is hosting family-friendly activities during Open Farm Days.
Zenger Farm is a 24-acre combined farm and wetland in southeast Portland. The urban farm hosts educational activities in a natural environment. Programs teach kids and adults the importance of food, farming, wetland conservation and environmental stewardship.
During Open Farm Days, bring your family and friends to Zenger Farm for hands-on activities, farm tours and delicious food.
Here are the upcoming Open Farm Days happening on select Saturdays from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Open Farm Days at Zenger Farm
Head to Zenger Farm for a day learning and exploring at the urban farm. Enjoy activities, farm tours, garden projects and lunch cooked by community chefs. The farm has beehives, a nature playground, multiple gardens and a wetland area open for your family to explore. When available, there is free produce or starts to take home.
Guided farm tours take place at 11:45 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Lunch is served from 12:15-1:15 p.m.
These events are open to everyone. You can drop in anytime from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on these dates below. Here are the themes for the upcoming events:
May 14
Digestive Wellness: This event explores ways to soothe and care for your gut through food and herbal medicine. Through culinary herbs and medicinal preparations, learn to stimulate digestive function and heal inflammation. Farm staff will share knowledge and guide participants in an herbal preparation for supporting digestion.
May 21
Drying Herbs and Herbal Infusions: Learn about one of the most simple and accessible forms of herbal medicine: dried herbs steeped in water. You’ll find out about simple techniques for drying and storing culinary and medicinal herbs, such as rosemary and mint. Participants are invited to collect fresh herbs from the garden for drying and make their own herbal tea blend to take home.
May 28
Salve Making and Skin Wellness: This event focuses on skin care. Explore common plant allies that can help maintain healthy skin and heal wounds. Participants will make skin salves infused with medicinal herbs to take home. There is also a garden project for those who want to help work with the land.
June 4
Summer Plant Swap: This plant giveaway and swap focuses on flower starts and summer vegetables. Bring your extra plant starts and seeds to swap, and/or come prepared to take some home. Bring a cardboard box to take home starts.
June 18
Pop-Up Play and Vegetable Stamps: This collaboration with Portland Free Play features inclusive, self-directed play for kids using natural and recycled materials. Create stamp art with vegetables and plants from the farm.
June 25
Summer Solstice Celebration: Have fun in the sun and celebrate the longest day of the year. Make sun prints with natural materials, learn to cool off using herbs, and share the abundance of summer flowers and vegetables.
Admission
Before visiting, you are encouraged to reserve your spot online. Zenger Farm’s Open Farm Days are open to the public on a pay what you can basis. There are sliding scale donation options for admittance to this event, starting at $5 per family or group. For free admission, use code OFD22 when you are registering for the event.
Be sure to dress for the weather. Wear boots and pack any snacks and drinks to bring with you. Bathrooms and a water bottle filling station are available.
