Free Play at Ground Kontrol Classic Arcade

Calling all retro gamers! Ground Kontrol is Portland’s classic arcade destination, plugged in to all your golden age classics to new favorites. More than 100 classic video games and pinball machines surround two full service bars serving tasty and cheap food and drinks.

Featuring low prices and unlimited fun, Ground Kontrol is a great place to gather with friends, have a date night and spend some quality time with your family.

Located in the heart of downtown Portland, Ground Kontrol’s environment is ideal for hanging out and escaping the busy city. To a load off and press play on your favorite games or explore new ones you’ve never played.

Game play costs a few quarters. All games are credited with reloadable game cards that can be bought at the kiosk or the arcade’s bars. A dollar equals 30 points and all of games cost 10-30 points point to play. 

Throughout the year, the arcade hosts DJs, comedy shows, high score competitions, game tournaments, and Rock Band karaoke nights. These events usually charge a small cover fee.

Do these low prices seem a little too good to be true? Well, it gets even better. Ground Kontrol also has super cheap drinks and food items, ranging from $4-$10, with lots of vegan and gluten-free options. 

Ground Kontrol is one of the few Portland locations where you can have an amazing time for cheap. My favorite days to visit are during Ground Kontrol free play events. 

Ground Kontrol Free Play

Two times a month, Ground Kontrol free play events let you ditch the game cards and unlock unlimited game play. For just $10, you’ll get access to all 100+ video games and pinball machines all day long.

This is your chance to try out new games, play your favorites on repeat or beat your personal high scores.

Ground Kontrol free play happens on the second Thursday and last Wednesday every month from noon to midnight. All ages are welcome till 5 p.m. After 5 p.m., the arcade becomes a 21+ only venue.
