Are you Hufflepuff, Gryffindor, Ravenclaw or Slytherin? No matter your Hogwarts House, you’re invited to gather at Kennedy School for Harry Potter’s birthday.
Wizarding Weekend is a magical celebration full of activities. Aspiring wizards and witches of all ages can head to Kennedy School to participate in special games and activities while enjoying themed food and drink items, including butterbeer.
When is Harry Potter’s Birthday?
Harry Pottter’s birthday is July 31, 1980. Born to Lily and James Potter, his birth held immense significance, not only for himself but for the entire wizarding world. As the years passed, July 31 has became a day of celebration for wizards and muggles who believe in the power of magic and the resilience of the human spirit.
Here’s how you can celebrate this special day in Portland.
Harry Potter’s Birthday Celebration
Wizarding Weekend at Kennedy School is July 26-28, 2024. Dress in your best costume and head to Kennedy School to celebrate with your fellow muggles.
For the most part, the birthday celebration is free to attend. Movie tickets and food are available for purchase.
Kennedy School’s gym will transform into the Great Hall. where you can sit at your House table and enjoy a cold butterbeer and begin the pixie hunt for escaped magical creatures.
Local nonprofit PDXpelliarmus is hosting trivia on Friday and Saturday and adult and children’s costume contests Saturday and Sunday.
Diagon Alley, Knockturn Alley and Hogsmeade are open all weekend for you to peruse magical creations and goods from local artists and crafters.
In the theater, you can watch all eight of the Harry Potter movies. Ticket prices are $8 for adults and $6 for kids. If you want to watch all of the movies, you can buy a pass for $64. Also, 50% of movie ticket sales are donated to Basic Rights Oregon.

11am-9pm – Great Hall (gym) open; Pixie Hunt in the Great Hall.
11:30am – Prisoner of Azkaban in the Theater.
2pm – Costume Contests (kids and adults) in the Great Hall.
3:30pm – Goblet of Fire in the Theater.
6pm – Book Trivia in the Great Hall.
7:30pm – Order of the Phoenix in the Theater.
Sunday, July 28
11am-6pm – Diagon Alley, Knockturn Alley, Hogsmeade open for shopping.
11am-7pm – Great Hall (gym) open; Pixie Hunt in the Great Hall.
11:30am – Half Blood Prince in the Theater.
2pm – Costume Contests (kids and adults) in the Great Hall.
3:30pm – Deathly Hallows, Part 1 in the Theater.
6pm – Activities in the Great Hall.
