It’s called the Festival of the Last Minute, the yearly shopping spree at Portland Saturday Market. For the week leading up to Christmas the usual weekend hours (Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) are expanded to a daily schedule.
The 350 vendors at the Portland Saturday Market offer wares that are unique and handmade. Their jewelry, ceramics, clothing, fine art and some oddball gifts (check out Spoonman Creations for myriad items fashioned from cutlery) were first okayed by a review committee, so last-minute shoppers have a guarantee that the gifts they pick up at Portland Saturday Market are of the highest quality and won’t be duplicated (unless all your friends and relatives do their Christmas shopping at the market).
From now through Christmas Eve, the Portland Saturday Market is open every day with the usual weekend hours and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays.
On Christmas Eve the Portland Saturday Market closes early, at 3:30 p.m., so all the vendors can hurry home and hang up their stockings.
