Free National Alpaca Farm Days Near Portland

If getting face-to-face with an alpaca sounds like a good way to spend a fall Saturday, several farms near Portland are opening their gates for National Alpaca Farm Days.

The 20th annual National Alpaca Farm Days is September 26-27, 2026, when participating farms across North America invite visitors to meet alpacas, learn about raising them, see fiber demonstrations and shop for alpaca products.

Around Portland, three participating farms have confirmed events in Hillsboro, Salem and Yacolt. All three local events are happening Saturday, September 26.

Activities and costs vary by farm, so I’ve included the confirmed details for each location below. If you live outside the Portland metro area, use the National Alpaca Farm Days farm finder to find participating farms near you.

2026 National Alpaca Farm Days Near Portland

Stoneberg Alpacas

For the closest option to Portland, head to Stoneberg Alpacas in Hillsboro.

The farm is celebrating National Alpaca Farm Days with a vendor market from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, September 26. Stoneberg is specifically closed Sunday, September 27.

Visitors can meet and feed the alpacas, browse the farm’s selection of alpaca socks, sweaters, scarves and other products, and shop from local vendors. The event also includes treats, crafts, pasture photos and a live wool-spinning demonstration. Bags of grain are available to purchase for feeding the alpacas.

Briarwood Acres

Briarwood Acres in Salem is opening its farm for a free National Alpaca Farm Days event on Saturday, September 26, from 11 a.m.-4 p.m.

Visitors can get an up-close look at the alpacas, watch live spinning demonstrations and learn more about how alpaca fiber becomes yarn and other products. The farm boutique will also be open with alpaca snacks, yarn and other items available for purchase.

Admission is free, making this an easy family-friendly fall outing if you don’t mind the drive south from Portland.

La Finca Alpacas

You can also head north into Southwest Washington for National Alpaca Farm Days at La Finca Alpacas in Yacolt.

La Finca is participating on Saturday, September 26, from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. The farm is inviting visitors to come see its newest alpaca babies and browse alpaca products.

This is a straightforward open-farm stop: come for a look at the herd, spend some time with the babies and see what can be made from all that famously soft fiber.

What Is National Alpaca Farm Days?

National Alpaca Farm Days is organized by the Alpaca Owners Association and takes place each year during the last weekend in September.

The experience is different at every farm, but participating locations may offer opportunities to meet alpacas up close, feel their fleece, tour the property, watch demonstrations and learn how alpacas are raised. Many farms also sell yarn, clothing and other products made from alpaca fiber.

The 2026 National Alpaca Farm Days takes place September 26-27, although participating farms set their own days and hours.
