Want to grow native plants from seed but aren’t sure where to start? A hands-on native seed propagation workshop in Portland is teaching gardeners the basics of starting native plants at home.
Floraboros and Sparrowhawk Native Plants are partnering for two workshops at SymbiOp Garden Shop in Southeast Portland. Participants will learn practical propagation techniques and leave with their own seed-starting kit.
The workshops take place September 19 and October 18. Registration is required.
Propagating From Native Seed Workshop
The two-hour workshop covers the basic horticultural skills needed to successfully propagate native plants from seed. Participants will learn how to choose appropriate materials and propagation methods, along with strategies for troubleshooting common problems.
The class also explores how growing native plants from seed can help maintain plant diversity and support local ecosystems.
This is a hands-on workshop, and each participant will use and take home a seed-starting kit.
If you’ve purchased seeds through a Sparrowhawk Native Plants pop-up, you can bring them along and ask questions about germinating the specific species you’re planning to grow.
