Monday, January 20, is a national holiday, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, also known as the MLK Day of Service. As per President Obama’s invitation to all Americans to help others, this day of service is meant to honor the legacy of Civil Rights leader Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., who once said, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?'”
In the Portland area, there will be special volunteer projects involving tree planting, helping out at food pantries for the needy, cooking for homeless kids, and even petting and walking cats and dogs held in animal shelters. There are numerous projects that fit numerous interests.
