Portland Repair Fair is here to fix your stuff for free.
Portland Repair Fairs are free events that bring together people with various skillsets to help fix items and, most importantly, pass on knowledge to empower you to be more handy around your home. You’ll be paired with a volunteer who will fix your item as you watch. You can sit back and enjoy the process or have the experts teach you how it’s done.
If you’re looking for another free resource in Portland, check out the local tool libraries.
Here are the upcoming Portland Repair Fair events.

Nov 7: DIY Textile Mending
Want to learn to fix holes and tears in your clothing with a professional seamstress of 30+ years!?
Join us on Friday, Nov. 7th from 6-8pm at Leaven Community Center for our workshop.
This small hands-on class will be focused on repairing holes in non-stretch fabrics, particularly denim & twill. We will talk about different ways to apply patches, techniques for linear tears vs holes with fabric missing, and some tips and tricks for keeping it all aligned as you work!
You will learn how to repair a garment of your own (or practice on scrap fabric) and leave being able to repair your own items. You will even get a little kit of take-home supplies for your personal mending projects!
This course welcomes brand-new menders and those with experience. Supplies are provided. Tickets are sliding scale.
Nov. 11: What Adhesive Should I Use!? Workshop
Do you get overwhelmed by the variety of different adhesives at the hardware store?
Join our newest workshop on Nov 11th, 6-8pm at Leaven Community Center to learn about adhesives, their best uses, and get advice on your projects!
This workshop will cover an overview of the different types of adhesives available in your average (often overwhelming) hardware store adhesives aisle. We will cover options such as wood glue, superglues, epoxies, contact cement, hot glue and plastic welding.
We will then do an epoxy practice demonstration, get to see how different glues are applied, and have consultation time for you to ask about projects you might have.
Participants of all skill levels are welcome to this course. Bringing questions about a current project is not a requirement for joining the class. All materials provided. Tickets are priced on a sliding scale.
Nov 19: Learn to Darn!
Join us Nov 19th from 6-8pm at Leaven Community Center to learn how to darn your clothes!
Darning is a kind of mending used for knitwear primarily. Mending is something we can all do, saving clothes from the landfill and healing our hearts in the process. Mending is a meditative, slow process that improves with practice.
Sivia will teach several methods during this workshop that you can use right away to start darning your socks, sweaters, and other knitwear. These darning techniques can also be used for mending other garments.
All skill levels are welcome, and we encourage you to bring your own items to work on, though we also provide practice items. All materials provided & you will go home with a little mending kit!
