Looking for an exciting and educational way to spend your evening? Attend the Star Party. This family-friendly event promises a stellar experience as you explore the galaxy and learn more about the wonders of the night sky.

On Friday, September 27, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., expert astronomers will guide you through a cosmic journey at the Star Party at Glendoveer Golf Course. This is a free event.

Peer through telescopes of all sizes and see distant stars, planets, galaxies and other celestial marvels. Alongside telescope viewing, you can participate in science-based activities hosted by OMSI staff. Beyond the stars, you’ll learn about the importance of dark skies and their impact on wildlife habitats.

What’s stargazing without some cozy treats? Enjoy campfire snacks and hot cocoa.

To preserve optimal viewing conditions, avoid using white lights at the event. If you have a red-light flashlight or headlamp, bring it along. Red cellophane is provided to cover regular flashlights.

This is a family-friendly event. No pets are allowed.

The event will proceed in cloudy skies or light rain, but more severe weather may lead to cancellation. The final decision on any cancellations being made by noon on Friday, September 27. The forecast calls for clear skies so it should be a great opportunity to see the stars.

Come prepared to relax, gaze at the stars and learn more about the beauty and science of the universe.
