This Sunday, August 24, is the next up in a series of monthly Sunday Parkways events, wherein certain streets through certain Portland neighborhoods are closed to all but pedestrians and bicyclists. There are food booths, vendors, fun activities for kids, bike repair stations, live music and more.
This month the fun travels to Southeast Portland, where the seven-mile route winds through Laurelhurst, Colonel Summers and Ivon parks, not to mention the tree-shaded neighborhood streets. The route is open to pedestrians and bicyclists from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., but don’t miss the Shakespeare performance of As You Like It in Laurelhurst Park from 1 to 3 p.m., and live music from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., 1 to 2 p.m. and 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Also in Laurelhurst Park will be a climbing wall and a slip-n-slide, compliments of Portland Parks & Recreation.
Other activities and fitness classes will be going on at the other parks and even more fun found along the route.
Next up is the Southwest Sunday Parkways, scheduled for September 28.
