Think outside the (chocolate) box this Valentine’s Day
When you think Northwest wine, the first thing that pops into your mind probably is the Willamette Valley. Yet, did you know about the thriving wine scene just across the river in Washington? Ridgefield, a short 20-minute drive from Portland, has made a name for itself with its small, family-run wineries all a short driving distance from each other.
Taste it for yourself during the Valentine’s day weekend wine and chocolate tour. Ridgefield wineries will be featuring their signature wines with chocolate pairings and live music, at some locations. Here are the posted events:
Feb. 9-11 | 12-6 p.m.
From the striking label designs to the koi ponds out back, you’re sure the fall in love with this quaint location. A chocolate expert will be on-site to pair each wine with a chocolate. Cuddle up on a comfy seat with a blanket and enjoy your drink, chocolate and live music. Tasting fee: $10. Wine and chocolate pairing prices may be different.
Feb. 9-11 | Friday 12-6 p.m. | Sat. 12-6 p.m. | Sun. 12-5 p.m.
Nothing hits your soft spot quite like a frosted cupcake. Mini cupcakes will feature the vineyard’s Gewurztraminer and Tempranillo wines. They also have a restaurant on-site that will have food specials all weekend. Tasting fee: $10.
Feb. 11 | 12-5 p.m.
Tantalize your sweet side with a glass of wine and a sweet from Killa Bites. Windy Hills Winery opened in May 2017 and features a new tasting room and event center. Prices for wine tasting and desserts not listed.
Friday 12-6 p.m. | Sat. 12-6 p.m. | Sun. 12-5 p.m.
From the charming barn to the pond to the sprawling vineyard, this winery will steal your heart. Grab a glass of wine and find a spot to relax and take in the view. Tasting fee: $5-$10. Food is available on-site and may offer special items for Valentine’s Day.
