Attend El Grito, a vibrant celebration of Latin American culture in Portland.
El Grito is the celebration of Mexican independence and the most important holiday celebrated by the Hispanic community in Oregon. The festival showcases music and dance, delicious food, and health resources.
Here’s how you can partake in the 2023 event.
2023 El Grito Portland
El Grito Portland is Friday, September 15 and Saturday, September 16, from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. This free event open to all highlights the traditions passed on from generation to generation. Enjoy performances, live music, dance, festivities, food, vendors, and community resources.
Th event showcases a variety of Latinx organizations and small businesses selling products and food. There are health screenings, vaccination clinics and community resources.
As for entertainment, there’s mariachi, dance, live music, activities for children, contests, prizes and raffles.
One highlight of the event is the traditional “El Grito de Independencia” ceremony that symbolizes the revolt for the independence of Mexico from the Spanish crown.
