Got a dead laptop, a bag of Styrofoam, a shirt that needs mending or a couple of books ready for a new home? Bring them along to the Milwaukie Sustainability Fair, where getting rid of your stuff responsibly is part of the fun.
The free, all-ages fair returns to downtown Milwaukie on Saturday, September 19, with recycling drop-offs, repair help, clothing and book swaps, live music, printmaking and the wonderfully named Trashion Fashion Show. It’s also a zero-waste event, so the organizers are putting the same reduce-reuse-recycle advice into practice onsite.
Here’s what’s happening at the 2026 Milwaukie Sustainability Fair.
Free Recycling, Swaps and Repairs
If you’ve been hanging onto something because you’re not quite sure what to do with it, this may be your chance to clear it out.
Green Century Recycling is collecting a long list of electronics for free, including computers, laptops, cell phones, monitors, TVs, game consoles, hard drives, computer accessories, small home electronics and more. Styrofoam drop-off is also free.
There are a few other ways to keep useful stuff out of the landfill:
- Book exchange: Bring two or three books in good condition.
- Clothing exchange: Bring up to two grocery bags of clean, wearable clothing. Shoes, accessories and jewelry are welcome, too.
- Repair Fair: Get help repairing small electronics, small home appliances, clothing and textiles. Leave microwaves, large appliances and anything containing coolant, gasoline or hazardous waste at home.
In other words, this is a pretty good Saturday outing if your junk drawer, closet or “I’ll deal with this later” pile has been getting out of hand.
Trashion Fashion, Music and Printmaking
At 12:30 p.m., the all-ages Trashion Fashion Show takes the stage with outfits made from reused, recycled and repurposed materials. Live music from the B-Side Records & The Riff sound stage runs throughout the event from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. And, for reasons that don’t really require further explanation, Sasquatch will be making appearances all day.
You can also try printmaking with Kat in the Box from 10 a.m. to noon and again from 1 to 3 p.m. Bring a clean, untextured 100% cotton T-shirt, tote or scrap of fabric to print on, or use recycled paper and fabric available at the event. The organizer describes this as a low-cost activity.
Local sustainability-focused vendors will be onsite as well, along with food vendors including Vida 33 Latin Bistro and Momo House.
