Walking across Portland in a single day takes some planning. On September 27, Oregon Walks is doing that part for you.
The nonprofit is closing out its annual STEPtember series with the first Portland Promenade, a free, approximately 11-mile walk from East Portland to downtown. The route starts at Luuwit View Park and crosses the city before finishing at Pioneer Courthouse Square. Shorter route options will also be available for anyone who wants to join without tackling the full 11 miles.
The Portland Promenade is free to attend, and registration is open for both walkers and volunteers.

The Portland Promenade starts at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, September 27, at Luuwit View Park, located at NE 127th Avenue and NE Fremont Street.
From there, walkers will travel through all four Portland city council districts, cross the Willamette River and make their way over the Blumenauer Bridge before eventually reaching Pioneer Courthouse Square downtown. Oregon Walks says the full route and additional timing information will be released before the event.
This is a semi-supported walk, with a set route plus snacks, water and lunch provided along the way. Oregon Walks is also planning guest appearances at stops along the route.
If 11 miles is more than you want to walk, you can participate in a shorter segment instead.
Free celebration at Pioneer Courthouse Square
The walk ends with a celebration at Pioneer Courthouse Square. The gathering marks the end of STEPtember and serves as Oregon Walks’ annual membership event.
Participation in the walk and the end-of-day celebration is free.
You can RSVP for the Portland Promenade or sign up to volunteer. Volunteer opportunities include registration, route support, tabling and pacing.
