There is something magical about a tree covered in mesmerizing lights and charming decorations. It is even more impressive when the tree stands at 75 feet tall.
On the day after Thanksgiving, Portlanders are invited to ring in the holiday season with good tidings and cheer. The annual Portland Tree Lighting Ceremony celebrates the illumination of the city’s centerpiece of the holiday season.
This year, the sing-a-long will be led by Portland’s own Thomas Lauderdale and Pink Martini. The celebration, which will replace the traditional in-person event held in Portland’s Living Room, will include onscreen lyrics and downloadable songbooks.
At the the event, the 75-foot Douglas fir will be illuminated with 14,000 colorful lights.
There will not be an in-person event in 2020. Instead, the Portland Tree Lighting Ceremony will be broadcast live on November 27 at 6:30 p.m. on KGW. The broadcast can be viewed on TV channel 8 or watch online on the KGW website.
To download the songbook for this year’s Portland Tree Lighting Ceremony, visit Pioneer Courthouse Square’s website.
