Black Community Science Night at OMSI

Celebrate Black culture and community at this special OMSI science event. Black Community Science Night is a family-friendly night of museum exploring, science demos, lectures and cultural entertainment.

The Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, better known as OMSI, is one of the nation’s leading science centers and we’re lucky to have it right here in Portland. Science lovers and explorers of the unknown will marvel at the special exhibits, hands-on labs and planetarium, 4-story screen theater and much more. The local attraction also hosts a monthly discount day with $5 tickets and science pubs at Kennedy School and Theory Restaurant.

OMSI also hosts special events throughout the year. Here are the details about this upcoming science night:

The Black Community Science Night at OMSI is Friday, October 10, 2025, from 6 to 9 p.m. The event features music, science demonstrations, planetarium shows, 27 community vendors, lectures and food.

Science demonstrations include Playing with Polymers, What Color Do You See?, Understanding the Faults Beneath Our Feet and NatSci a la Carte.

Here are the timed activities:

Teen Tech Center

6-9 p.m. The Teen Tech Center is for ages 13-18 to create alongside mentors and other teens to explore your own ideas, develop skills and express yourself through technology.

Science Playground

6-8 p.m. This hall is designed for children ages birth through 6 and their families to practice science skills.

6:30 p.m. Story time with Edith Johnson of Sunrise Books

7:30 p.m. Story time with Edith Johnson of Sunrise Books

Kendall Planetarium

6:30 p.m. Starry Nights Live
7:05 p.m. Infinity Express
7:40 p.m. Laser Michael Jackson
8:15 p.m. Laser Jimi Hendrix

Tickets

Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for kids and seniors. The price includes access to the featured exhibit, parking and all activities listed above. Food and drinks are available for purchase.
