St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Portland
On March 17 at 1 p.m., the parade steps off from Beverly Cleary School. Arrive early to secure a prime viewing spot along the parade route or join the parade.
Each year, the parade boasts a lineup of local groups that embody the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day. The Royal Rosarians, a marching band and bagpiper. and the Irish Wolfhound Club of the Willamette Valley are among the annual participants.
But perhaps one of the most unique features is the “Truck o’ Pats.” Parade organizer Steve Slavik extends an open invitation to anyone named Pat or Patricia to ride in the bed of his old GMC pickup, which proudly displays a “Truck o’ Pats” sign. This fun tradition adds a touch of whimsy to the festivities.
